Dry Tortugas 2013

I spent three days in the Dry Tortugas recently.  Gallus Quigley and I were leading the first trip of the year for Florida Nature Tours. FNT  There was a change of boat meaning that we had to shuffle people from Fort Meyers to Key West.  The new boat was well worth the effort.  Spree Expeditions Spree provided top notch service.  The boat was clean, the accommodations were roomy enough to be comfortable.  Every one aboard was very helpful.  The food was great.

The birds cooperated for us.  No real rarities, Black noddy was a no show and we dipped on pelagics, but there were 20 species of warblers over the three days as well as Black-whiskered vireo, tanagers, orioles, a few flycatchers, thrushes, and a couple Green herons.  Very nice to be back on the Tortugas.  Wes is leading another trip starting tomorrow.  Wish I could be there, but I got to work on Herbert Hoover Dike.  Less fun, more money.
