Purple swamphen!

For those in the know, you know that the Purple swamphen is now on the ABA list.  What does this mean?  It means you can count another species of bird on your lists if you are playing the ABA listing game.  Not a great day for naturalists in Florida, as it acknowledges that yet another alien species of bird is competing with the native populations, but a good day for listers and professional guides.  I am so conflicted!

Home again

I am home for two weeks solid!

I'll be giving a presentation on Florida's second Breeding Bird Atlas (BBAII) this Friday at the Space Coast Audubon Society meeting (SCAS) in Rockledge, FL.  I hope to make a short birding jaunt next week, if I'm caught up on chores.  Lots of good county ticks to be had out there.  Hopefully I can put together some stories of old times for the blog.
